Glenn Adler's Ph.D. research was on the development of non-racial unionism
in the South African motor industry, and he has published on this topic
and related issues of skills, training and grading; globalisation and its
impact on unions; and on the international sanctions campaign.

He is co-editor of Trade Unions and Democratization in South Africa,
1985-1997 and From Comrades to Citizens: The South African Civics Movement
and Democratisation in South Africa (both from Macmillan 2000). He is
also the editor of Engaging the State and Business: The Labour Movement
and Co-Determination in Contemporary South Africa and Public Service
Labour Relations in a Democratic South Africa (both University of the
Witwatersrand Press, 2000).

His current research interests are on the impact of social movements on
democratisation, and on the impact of international financial institutions
on development in Africa.
