mainly in the areas of early Indian Buddhism and Theravada Buddhism,
especially in Sri Lanka. Forthcoming book?entitled, Noble Persons and
Their Paths: Diversity and Controversy in Early Indian and Theravada
Buddhist Soteriology. |
Enseignement | Teaching interest is mainly in areas pertaining to the history of Asian
Buddhist thought and practice, South Asian Religions, and Comparative
religion. Courses taught include Religions of the World, Hinduism and
Buddhism in Ancient India, Buddhist Thought and Practice, Contemporary
Buddhism in South and Southeast Asia, Tibetan Civilization, Japanese
Religions, and Contemplative Traditions of Asia. |
Publications | Recent work done on Gandhi, including "Gandhi,
Nonviolence, and the Bhagavad-gita," in Steven Rosen, ed., Holy War, and
"Gandhi the Rama-bhakta," in the Journal of Vaishnava Studies (Spring
2004). Chapters on divinity and sacred texts and authority in Buddhism
for the Pilgrim Library of World Religions series and chapter on family
ethics in Buddhism for Wadsworth's Comparing Religious Traditions series.
