Recherche

My studies cover two major aspects: the symbolic politics of elites and
politicization of ethnic differences, especially in Sri Lanka. My most
recent research examines issues pertaining to Muslims in Sri Lanka. My
scholarly pursuit has born fruit as publications in leading journals in my
areas of study, such as the Journal of Asian and African Studies (JAAS),
the Journal of Third World Studies (JTWS) and Asian Affairs. In addition,
I have published a number of research findings in international
newspapers. Besides, I am contributing a chapter on religion and politics
in Sri Lanka to a book project on religion and politics in South Asia
(http://www.routledgepolitics.com/books/Religion-and-Politics-in-South-Asia-isbn9780415778015).

In recent years, my research has been concerned with the rising religious
trends in South Asia and Middle East. Over the next few years, my project
would focus on religious illiberalism and its inherent challenges to
secular regimes and political actors in South Asia and the Middle East.
