My thesis comprised an ethnographic study of a private, primary school along with an
analysis of the historical categories therein -- the focus was on the
development of institutions. For my future work, I want to move beyond
formal schooling and look at other areas of intersection between oral and
literate traditions. While I am still in the process of defining my
project, my fieldwork will be in western Rajasthan -- an area I have
travelled in extensively while assisting my sister, Anjali Panjabi, with
research on her earlier and current film project on Mirabai. I had earlier
also been regularly interacting with Komal Kothari -- with many
discussions on local knowledge-practices of the region.
