Sri Lanka

Dr. Perera is from Sri Lanka. He is an architect-planner by profession. He
received his qualifications in architecture from the University of
Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. His qualifications in urban planning are from the
Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He obtained his PhD in Urban
Environmental Management from AIT in 1994. He was a British Commonwealth
Fellow at the Commonwealth Association of Architects, London, and a
Fulbright Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
Dr. Perera has 21 years of experience as an architect, urban planner,
project manager, researcher and an academic in several institutions in Sri
Lanka, Thailand and USA. He also has project experience in Sri Lanka,
India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Cambodia
and Lao PDR. His present interests in research and project work are on
community-based urban environmental management and eco-sensitive planning
and design of urban settlements. Dr. Perera is very conversant with South
Asian and South-east Asian issues pertaining to urban environment in
general and urban built-environment in particular.

Dr. Ranjith Perera is a full time faculty member of the Asian Institute of
Technology (AIT), in Bangkok, Thailand where he is attached to the Urban
Environmental Management (UEM) Field of Study in the School of
Environment, Resources and Development. He is teaching post-graduate level
courses on Urban Environmental Management Systems, Urban Planning, and
Urban Environmental Design at AIT. In addition to his academic
responsibilities, he is responsible to co-manage the UN-Habitat sponsored
Urban Management Program (UMP-Asia), and coordinate demonstration projects
component of the CIDA Sponsored South-east Asia Urban Environmental
Management Applications Project (SEA-UEMA).
