Research Interests

My research is in two main areas,
firstly Portuguese Colonial History in Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean
Region in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and secondly, politics,
ethnicity and education in contemporary Sri Lanka.

Teaching Interests

I teach undergraduate courses on Colonialism and Nationalism in South Asia
and Contemporary South Asia. My graduate offerings are in the area of
Ethnicity and Violence in South Asia.
